Sha’duk

Report by: Warrant Officer Victor Markov

Position: Field Scientist

Assigned Objective: Investigate the ruins of the Kelrath city of Gethamol

Purpose of Mission: Examine the ruins of a city destroyed by a Chezbah attack.

Progress Report: Of the few buildings that withstood the destruction are two temples. One of the Oracle Dari and one of the Oracle Sha’duk. It is simply luck that both these temples survived. Without both of them we would not have been able to determine how they are connected. For some time it was thought that Sha’duk was some kind of a death cult. On first look it appears that way but our findings significantly change that understanding.

The Oracles are less of a religion than a philosophy and as such, most Kelrath follow the philosophy of Dari for their every day life. Dari espouses a lifestyle of peace, staying calm and dispassionate. However the literature we have examined shows that when a person becomes agitated, angry or distressed and Dari’s tenants cannot help them, the monks of the temple send the student to Sha’duk. It is here that they learn how to use their negative feelings to try and resolve problems. It is apparent that from the writings we deciphered that the Kelrath believe that every agitation must be forced out of their lives. If a person stays in an agitated state for one thing for too long they will die from it. In fact the Kelrath word for death is very similar to complain or protest. It is said that what kills a person is an agitation that they secretly held onto for many years. It is the custom for a Kelrath to name that agitation on their deathbed and the family is obligated to try and remove it to prevent the family member’s death. If the family member dies anyway it is assumed that they did not do enough soul searching and did not find the right agitation that was killing them.

Space Time Warp Hole

Report by: Major Jacob Kibler

Position: 4th Special Sciences Division Commander

Assigned Objective: Investigate Space Time Warp

Purpose of Mission: Evaluate the connection between Array structures and space time distortions

Progress Report: Our second expeditionary team has gone missing. So far all attempts to contact them has failed. I am putting a stop to manned missions because one of our engineers has been able to put together several autonomous probes. Dr. Largo has devised a device he is calling a warp gauge that we will be installing on some of the probes. With this device Dr. Largo hopes the probes will be able to navigate into the hole and back out again. Radio telemetry is unreliable in the warp hole so the probes will record their sensor data to be reviewed by the scientists when they return.

The first team brought back evidence that the Kelrath have been in the hole at one time in the distant past. Before disappearing the second expeditionary team reported finding evidence that the warp hole is inhabited by someone but were unable to report who they had encountered.

Observation of Chezbah Fortress

Report by: Lieutenant Allen Hughes

Position: 75th Platoon Commander

Assigned Objective: Observation of Chezbah Fortress

Purpose of Mission: Determine the purpose of and technology in use in the structure designated “Chezbah Fortress”.

Progress Report: The Fortress appears to use a technology similar to the “Dark Tiles” commonly used by the Scimrahn. Our Scientist speculates that the Chezbah must understand how the tiles work and have either augmented their effect or have been able to replicate it. We have observed an estimated 400 metric tons of materials delivered to the “doorway” of the facility. This would point to the interior dimension being far larger than the one generated by Dark Tiles. Also the ability to open a aperture between dimensions is something never before seen with Dark Tiles. From what we have been able to observe, there is some kind of structure inside. We have taken some video of it and will return along with it. Without a forcible entry there is no way to observe more from the outside.

Status report on the titan

Report by: Lieutenant Gary MacDonald

Position: 139th Platoon Commander

Assigned Objective: Status report on the titan

The titan is still moving in a random pattern and stopping periodically. It’s general course may bring it in contact with the Chezbah town of Hef-elek-meser. There have been two brief encounters with Hunter E-Suits that attacked the titan but we were not able to do any damage from what we can tell. The titan destroyed the E-Suits once with some kind of energy blast and once by crushing it.We have kept our distance as it appears hostile to anything it encounters. Our engineers estimate that it’s mass is in the area of half of a million Kilograms from the ground impressions it has made and their displacement. We will continue to observe the titan and keep you informed.

Delivery of vaccines to Kelrath

Report by: Master Sergeant Alex Rodriguez

Position: Medical Officer

Assigned Objective: Delivery of vaccines to Kelrath

Purpose of Mission: To offer medicine in order to reduce the danger of a deadly outbreak among the Kelrath population of the city of Gerit.

Progress Report: Our mission met with extreme difficulty just trying to inform the Kelrath of our intention. We did anticipate this so a bunker and defensive positions were established to allow us to weather attacks. Special Vangard helicopters were prepared to launch leaflets on the fighting forces of the Kelrath. This had limited effect since we weren’t sure if the combat forces were literate in their own language.A secondary attempt was made with a remote controlled vehicle that was outfitted with loudspeakers. One of our Communications Officers has Kelrath language training and recorded a message that would be looped continuously. This attempt also had limited effectiveness because the Kelrath assumed that the vehicle was some kind of weapon and destroyed it.Of course we were constantly transmitting a message over radio but very few of the Kelrath are equipped with radio. There also seemed to be several Kelrath fighting vehicles that were jamming our transmissions. We were ultimately unsuccessful because we were unable to make contact with the Kelrath general population. The hope was to get the Kelrath combatants interested in the medical assistance we were offering. In the future it is my recommendation that contact should be made that will not result in a military response and then bring in the medical personnel.

Hello Mr and Ms Flores,

Hello Mr and Ms Flores,I’m afraid I have the one to be the bearer of bad news. Your son was sent on a mission to protect a certain Scimrahn Tribe. On December 30th, at precisely 16:43 we lost contact with the platoon your son was in. For the next 8 hours transmissions were sent with no response. At precisely 2:21 rescue’s teams were scrambled to their last known position. They found nothing. After more extensive searching, the platoon’s bodies were found… We suspect that an ambush of at least fifty to a hundred “Chezbah hounds” attacked, very deadly beasts, we deal with them quite a bit, and we have indeed lost a lot of men to them. There… I’m afraid there’s not much of the corpse we can salvage. The Artifact Study Organization, shall pay for all of the funeral needs. I give you my deepest condolences for your son’s loss, please remember, its a risk every man takes, when stepping in to this… “New Eden”.-We all due respect, Jim Packer

Dear Mom and Dad

Dear Mom and Dad,

Sorry I haven’t written in a few months. I’m doing fine. My company was sent to defend a Scimrahn village, the Enepid tribe, that was making combat E-Suits for us. We were attacked by a small Chezbah force. The Scimrahn said they had to leave, the Chezbah would be back, so they packed up and headed out. We teleported back to base.

Mom, I met a girl, her name is Neah. I don’t know if I’ll ever get to see her again because she was from the Scimrahn village. Neah said she couldn’t tell me where she was going because it would put us in danger. The Chezbah would try to get us to tell them where they went, so the Scimrahn never say where they are going. I wanted to have her teleport out with us but the Lieutenant wouldn’t allow it so she told me that she would meet me in three months at Gadios. At least I think she did, I’ve learned a little of how to speak their language but it’s not easy.

I’ll try to write more often.

Love,

Eric.

Information gathering on alien magnetic concentration technology

Report by: Warrant Officer John Hamich

Position: Field Scientist

Assigned Objective: Information gathering on alien magnetic concentration technology

Purpose of Mission: Magnetic concentration technology is used to confine magnetic energy into tight spaces. Normally, magnetic energy spreads out evenly as it moves through air or vacuum. The native populations and the technology in the planet itself use devices that cause magnetic energy to become tightly concentrated. This technology is a foundation technology of many of their devices.

Progress Report: We have made very little progress in learning more about the magnetic concentration technology that the aliens of this planet use. All three of the major civilizations use this technology in controlling the flow of plasma and in their shield technology but our Scimrahn allies and even some interviewed Kelrath have a very poor understanding of how it works. Even those that are in charge of building devices that use this technology do not have a good understanding of why it works. It would seem that current designs are simply copies of existing devices found in the plasma conduits that power the cities. Some interviewed offered nonsensical descriptions of how the devices worked but either their understanding of physics is far more advanced than our own or they have fabricated the explanations based on their own limited understanding. So far the former seems unlikely. There does seem to be some that can at least understand the science of designing new devices that use this technology in different ways because some devices have a different internal structure but so far we have not encountered such an individual. It may be that some designs are a result of trial and error. It would appear that this technology is left over from whom ever designed and built The Artifact. There is one more avenue of research that is possible but is currently not available until further diplomatic effort is made. The Chezbah are often considered to have advanced technology beyond that of the other two nations. It may be that they can answer our questions.

Hey Mom and Dad!

Hey Mom and Dad!It’s only been two weeks since we were deployed but it feels like forever! I know they show stuff about this planet on the news all the time but let me tell you, being here is so weird! We drive around on patrols for hours and hours. There is so much space here! It’s a vast wilderness! There is no night or day. That takes a lot of getting used to, it’s sometimes hard to get enough sleep but the medics are doing a good job taking care of us.I’ve met a bunch of the aliens! They don’t speak English, so I couldn’t really talk to them other than pointing at things. I got to fire one of their lasers! That was pretty cool! I cut a beer bottle in half with it. Actually there wasn’t much left of it, most of it melted. My Platoon has got some great guys in it. After we’re done with patrols we hang out and tell stories about all the things we’re seeing. Some of the stuff here is crazy! One of my patrols went into a place that was full of these building sized robots. They don’t really do much but we could hear them moving around in their shells. We dared a guy to go in one of them but he wouldn’t do it. I wasn’t about to either! There are these crazy pyramid mountains in another area. The freaky part is some hang from the ceiling. Driving under them is scary but they say they’ve been up there for thousands of years so they aren’t going to fall any time soon.Tell Amy that her big brother is waiting for her to enlist so he can show her around. It’ll be great to see her here.Miss you,Eric.
